TurfBot
The patent pending TurfBot is a fully automated mobile robot system capable of painting an image on an athletic field from start to finish with minimal human interaction. The TurfBot is comprised of a mobile robotic platform and a paint system. The mobile robotic platform contains the power train of the robot, acts as storage for the medium to be painted onto the athletic field, and shelters the microcontroller which is the heart of the robotic system. The paint system is comprised of the painting boom which extends from the side of the mobile robotic platform and the painting apparatus which resides on the painting boom.

Current methods for painting athletic fields involve a long and tedious process of printing, cutting, and labeling stencils followed by hand painting of the stencil, painting through the stencils onto the athletic field surface to create boundaries, and finally filling in the boundaries to create the finished image. This is very costly in time, money, and wasted materials. An alternative method of painting athletic fields consisting of dividing the athletic field surface into grids and hand-painting each grid at a larger scale than the original image likewise is very expensive in time, money, and wasted materials.
